History & Cultural Significance of Amadpur Kali Puja
Over 400 years ago, merchants navigating the ancient Behula river canal through Kaligram sought refuge from river dacoits at the altar of the mother deity. Miraculously delivered from peril, they established the perpetual worship of Boro Maa. Unlike modern mechanized celebrations, Amadpur preserves an unbroken tradition where deities are consecrated exclusively with sacred Behula river water and borne through the village streets upon the shoulders of devotees.
The Midnight Mashaal Torchlight Procession & Visarjan Routes
On the night following Kali Puja, the entire electricity grid of Amadpur village is turned off at midnight. By the blazing glow of traditional fire torches (mashaal) and the thunderous beats of rural dhaks and kansar, the monumental 20-foot pratima of Boro Maa, alongside her sisters, begins her nocturnal parikrama. The processions converge at the historic Chaudhuri Zamindar Para courtyard for the sacred confluence dance, visit Buro Shiv Tala, and proceed to the holy ghats at dawn for immersion.
